2: Still Life

2nd Grade learned about still life.  As a new teacher I was anxious to see the difference between Kindergarten and 2nd Grade with the same lesson.  2nd Grade was able to work on a larger scale.  They learned about observation and using different shapes to create a still life.  I had them decorate their negative space with patterns.

Kindergarten learned about still life, observation, and combined their prior knowledge of mixing organic and geometric shapes to form an image.  They were to draw the still life from observing the fruit on their tables. Since the fake fruit was in recycled butter containers, I taught the kids the art element of pattern and had them decorate their 'fruit baskets' with different patterns. As a new teacher I was highly impressed with the final products!
